Keith Wyness shares unexpected Rob Edwards exit claim after Wolves latest
Wolves’ preparations for building a Championship squad may begin in the January transfer window.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is unsure how safe manager Rob Edwards is at Molineux.
Wolves’ 3-0 win over West Ham gave the Old Gold their first Premier League win of the season, and Edwards’ first as manager of the club.
It has also been a turbulent season off the pitch with Wolves fans wanting the club to be sold to new ownership.
Wolves begin ‘rebuilding their squad’ for the Championship
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Wolves could start selling players in January amid their likely relegation to the Championship.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the club must back Edwards if they want him to be their manager next season.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now, if they are going to rebuild for the Championship, they are going to do some sales now and get some money, either January or in the summer.
“They’ve got to have that eye of what type of squad they’re going to be building for the Championship because it’s very important. It’s a different animal compared to the squad they’re going to have now in a relegation fight.
“And if they’re giving up and saying, ok, we’re not in the relegation fight, we have to build for the Championship and get some money in the bank in order to spend and start rebuilding the squad. That’s a whole different job. And again, they’ve got to be sure that Rob Edwards is the right guy to rebuild for that. And as I say, I don’t know how stable his position is.”

Wolves make off-field change
Wolves sacked executive chairman Jeff Shi, and replaced him with Nathan Shi, who has no prior experience in football.
The structure of Wolves has caused concern over whether the club has the tools to be able to rebuild in the Championship.
The Midlands club have not played in the second tier since the 2017-18 season, and many players are expected to depart to stay in the Premier League.
