Keith Wyness: West Ham in ‘very concerning’ situation after confirmed news

West Ham’s Premier League survival hopes and future financial state hang in the balance with just 10 matches left to play.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid the backdrop of West Ham’s £104.2million loss recorded in their latest financial accounts.

The Hammers invested nearly £50m in the January window, balanced by the sale of Lucas Paqueta, to aid their survival bid, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side just two points off safety.

West Ham’s financial situation means they would have to sell players regardless of whether they remain in the Premier League next season.

West Ham ‘not looking good’ for Premier League survival

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes West Ham’s finances are “very concerning.”

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness still thinks the club can retain their Premier League status.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “They’ve obviously invested to try and keep themselves up. In the January window, they were pretty active, brought in two strikers, and in defence as well with [Axel] Disasi.

“Look, let’s see where they end up. It’s not looking good for them. They’re the bottom of the three that are in the battle right now. Still got time to do it.

“And they have got some momentum, as we’ve seen compared to the others, you know, Nottingham Forest and Spurs. They’ve probably got the best momentum, but it’s still a four-point gap at the moment, and those numbers are very concerning.”

Pressure intensifies on West Ham owners

Amid the backdrop of potential relegation and huge West Ham financial losses, Football Insider revealed that David Sullivan and Karren Brady could resign.

Irons fans are not happy with their leadership of the club, with protests having taken place frequently at matches this season.

Sullivan and Brady have been at the club since 2010, with West Ham winning the Europa Conference League under their ownership in 2023.
