‘Quality’ – Rodgers raves about player after Celtic win against Morton

Brendan Rodgers has raved about Odosnne Edouard and claimed he made the difference in Celtic’s 3-0 Scottish Cup quarter-final victory over Morton on Saturday.

The Hoops were struggling to play any flowing football in the game until the introduction of the 20-year-old, who replaced Scott Sinclair at half-time.

The Frenchman made a big impact on the game, immediately missing two chances to score the opening goal, before he won the penalty which Moussa Dembele converted which put the Bhoys 2-0 up.

Edouard got the goal his play deserved in the 90th minute, and Rodgers was very impressed with the on-loan PSG striker’s performance.

“Odsonne was the key difference in the game,” Rodgers said, as quoted by the Telegraph.

“He shows his quality, his hold-up play, his movement, his speed, then scores a very good goal.”

The win over Morton saw the Hoops book their place in the semi-final draw for the Scottish Cup, which takes place after the Rangers-Falkirk game on Sunday.

Football Insider verdict

Rodgers is correct to be glowing about Edouard’s performance, as he gave the Bhoys an impact which their play had been lacking up to that point. He did very well in particular to win the penalty, holding off three Morton players until he was brought down. With Sinclair so badly off-form at the moment, the 20-year-old may well come into the Hoops manager’s plans for the Old Firm derby next Sunday, as he has the strength and power to cause the Gers defence all kinds of problems. It would be a gamble to start him in the game but there is no doubt that he could have a significant impact on the match.
