Major Leeds blow as key player in line to miss Bristol City clash

Pontus Jansson is a major doubt for Leeds’ Championship clash against Bristol City next Tuesday.

Manager Garry Monk revealed in the aftermath of his side’s defeat to Cardiff on Saturday that the Sweden international could miss a second consecutive match.

Jansson, 25, was absent for the 2-0 loss to Neil Warnock’s side due to illness and Leeds’ six-match sequence of not conceding a goal at Elland Road came to an end.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay reported Monk as saying on his personal Twitter account on Saturday evening that Jansson “phoned in sick this morning” and is “doubtful” for the game against City in three days’ time.

The loss of Jansson for a second consecutive league match would be a major blow to Monk’s side.

The Sweden international has been one of the outstanding players in the Championship this season and his performances have been such that Leeds have already taken up the option to convert his season-long loan from Torino into a permanent deal.

Liam Cooper stood in for Jansson against Cardiff and supporters took to Twitter to condemn the display of the club’s third senior centre-back.

Nevertheless, Cooper is likely to partner Kyle Bartley against City on Tuesday if Jansson misses out.
