This key Liverpool decision will secure top four PL place
COMMENT By Danny Wright
Liverpool have issued a massive statement of intent as they prepare to offer Adam Lallana a new contract with the club.
This key decision by the club is going to play a massive part in the club’s ambitions to return to the Champions League.
Lallana has been crucial to the club’s impressive season so far with seven goals and seven assists in 27 Premier League appearances and the latest news of him about to sign a new contract at Anfield, worth £110,000-a-week, will only cause him to go on to try harder to help the Reds finish in the top four.
The 28-year-old has been instrumental in the centre of midfield since moving from his regular position on the wing.
He barely puts a foot wrong in games and according to WhoScored, he has a pass success rate of 84.5% and completes an average of 44.5 passes per game.
Lallana is also a skilled dribbler of the ball and only makes an average of 1.6 bad touches per game. However one key area that has saw him improve in vastly this season is defensively.
The England international now averages almost two tackles per game, something that would not have been associated with his game when he first moved to Liverpool in 2014.
He was a key part in Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Tottenham on February 11 and they will now spark back into life after previously going five games without a win in the league.
Their only win of 2017 before the win over Spurs was in an FA Cup replay against Plymouth.
However with one of their most important players on a fresh new deal and receiving a massive morale boost, Liverpool can now kick on and continue their push for the top four.
The Red have not lost in nine league games against any of the teams currently in the top seven of the Premier League standings – in essence they are the best at beating the best.
They have dispatched of Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City and Tottenham this season. The only top seven side to not succumb to Klopp’s high-pressure style of play are Manchester United.
Lallana and his teammates will now be looking forward to their next few games as in their next five outings they face three top seven sides.
If Liverpool can continue to beat the best and sort out their struggles against some of the lesser sides, they and Lallana can continue their impressive and achieve a top four place.
