Celtic player resurgence comes at just the right time in hunt for treble

COMMENT

After a very indifferent run of form, Celtic striker Moussa Dembele seems to be back in business for the Hoops.

The 21-year-old scored a double in the Scottish Cup victory over Morton, taking his tally of goals to three in his last two games and 12 overall for the season.

He might not be on pace to match the 32 goals he scored last season, but the Frenchman is set to be a key player for the Hoops as they chase a second consecutive domestic treble.

His movement for the first goal in particular was superb, as he found space at the back post to crash home a towering header which gave Morton goalkeeper Derek Gaston no chance.

Dembele’s return to form has come at just the right time for the Hoops, as they head into next Sunday’s massive Old Firm derby.

The Frenchman dominated the fixture last season, scoring five goals, but this season he has disappointed, particularly in the goalless draw between the clubs in December, where he seemed to be playing like he was expecting to leave the Bhoys.

However, the expected move to England in January failed to materialise, and after some indifferent performances, Dembele looks to have knuckled down and got on with his football.

A win for the Bhoys against their biggest rivals would all but guarantee a seventh successive league title for Brendan Rodgers’ side, and the return to form of Dembele could go a long way towards getting a win at Ibrox.
