Kieran Maguire: Chelsea finalise summer USA agreement – could snowball into ‘major’ deal

Fico could be a ‘major’ sponsor at Chelsea if their partnership during the USA pre-season tour is successful.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Chelsea’s sponsorship deal for their upcoming tour of the United States.

As reported by SportBusiness, Chelsea have announced an agreement with analytics software company Fico to sponsor their 2023 pre-season tour.

The Blues will head to the United States this summer, with games against Wrexham, Brighton, Newcastle United, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund scheduled.

The London club are set to participate in the Premier League’s inaugural Summer Series, which will see them play three matches in one week in July.

Maguire believes Fico are ‘dipping their toe’ in sponsorship before committing to a major partnership deal with Chelsea.

I don’t think that this is going to be a significant boost simply because it’s the inaugural summer series that is taking place,” Maguire told Football Insider.

It will be a relatively modest fee given that Chelsea are only playing a handful of games.

“It’s a funny tournament because there are some double headers taking place which I find bizarre.

As for the value of the sponsorship, it’s a classic case of every little helps, but it won’t be serious money.

It could be that Fico are dipping their toe in the water to see whether they get a significant response in terms of social media engagement.

If they are happy then we could see them becoming a major sponsor at Chelsea.
