Kieran Maguire makes ‘historic’ claim as Aston Villa reveal USA proposal

Aston Villa have been selected for the Premier League’s pre-season Summer Series as they are an ‘attractive’ proposition due to their history.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Villa’s summer plans in the United States.

Aston Villa revealed on Tuesday (11 April) that they will head to the United States this summer to partake in a six-team pre-season tournament named the Summer Series.

The Villans will be joined by Newcastle United, Chelsea, Brentford, Brighton and Fulham in the tournament, which will see matches played across five different cities.

Unai Emery’s side kick off their tour against Newcastle in Philadelphia, with the game scheduled to go ahead on 23 July.

Villa’s tournament will conclude just a week later when they face Brentford on 30 July.

Maguire believes Villa’s history, heritage and American owners make them perfect participants for the tournament.

Aston Villa are without doubt an attractive proposition for the inaugural Premier League pre-season tour in the United States,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

They have American owners, some exciting players, and a very progressive manager.

On top of that, they are a historic club with a heritage in terms of winning European competitions as well as domestic titles.

For those reasons, they are in an ideal position to be seen as a solid middle-class club that can add to the overall allure and excitement of the Premier League.
