Kieran Maguire: Rangers to ‘blow club record out the water’ with ‘£90m’ announcement

Rangers are on course to “blow their club record out of the water” and announce revenues of £90million for the 2021-22 campaign.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the financial rewards of the Glasgow giants’ exploits this season.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side failed to retain their Scottish Premiership crown but reached the final of the Europa League and won the Scottish Cup.

Analysis from football business expert Swiss Ramble posted on Twitter on Tuesday (24 May) suggests that Rangers will earn £17m in prize money alone from their European campaign.

That figure will be boosted by matchday income from seven home matches in the competition.

Commercial director James Bisgrove told the Four Lads Had a Dream podcast in January that he also expects the club to rake in £27.9m from sponsorship and merchandise.

And Maguire forecasts that revenue will reach dizzy new heights as a result.

“Rangers’ record revenue was in 2007-08 and that was £64.5m,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“I would expect that record to be blown out of the water in 2021-22.

“Rangers also get very good matchday revenue. They made £35.7m in 2019-20, and that season was impacted by Covid.

“Then there are commercial and Europa League monies. If you add all these together, we could be talking in excess of £90m.”

Rangers’ turnover for 2020-21 was £47.7m.

The figures were impacted by the total lack of matchday income.
