Kieran Maguire shares view on Aston Villa joining Super League – ‘you can see the benefits’
There are plenty of benefits for Aston Villa if they join the Super League proposal but they will be cautious of domestic sanctions.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Villa will want to be involved in the Super League proposal if they find 64 suitable teams.
After its collapse in 2021. the Super League has launched a new structure for its proposed breakaway league that involves 64 teams across three divisions.

They gained approval from the European Court of Justice after they ruled that Uefa and Fifa acted “unlawfully” in blocking its creation.
However, the Super League has suffered a major setback after multiple European clubs released statements this week declaring that they will take no part in the competition.
The six Premier League clubs involved in the initial Super League plans have all confirmed that they will not take part, but no other top-flight English clubs have made their stance clear.
Maguire believes Villa will see the benefits of being involved in the Super League, but admits that domestic punishment will make it difficult.
“If there are 64 teams in the Super League, the chances are that Aston Villa will be one of them,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Therefore, you can see the benefits for them, especially if UEFA competitions collapse as a result of the Super League and therefore there are no alternatives.

“However, I think the club will be very cautious and they’ll be working in conjunction with other English clubs to make sure that there’s an overall response.
“They’ll also be wary of threats by the UK government to make it difficult for them to compete domestically if they choose to go down the Super League route.“
