Kieran Maguire: Tottenham grasp ‘huge opportunity’ as groundbreaking stadium plan revealed

Tottenham will simultaneously showcase women’s football and improve matchday revenue by hosting a double-header this weekend.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Tottenham’s groundbreaking plans to host two matches in one day.

Tottenham have announced that the club are set to host a first-ever Premier League and Women’s Super League double-header on Saturday, 20 May.

The North London club will host the men’s final home game of the Premier League season against Brentford at 12.30pm, which will then be followed by the women’s final WSL fixture of the season against Reading at 4.15pm.

All tickets for the men’s Premier League fixture will include the WSL fixture, allowing fans to attend both matches for the price of one.

Maguire praised the ‘logic’ of Tottenham’s decision, suggesting it will help boost popularity in the women’s game while also boosting the club’s income.

I think there is a lot of logic in this decision,” Maguire told Football Insider.

From Spurs’ point of view, it gives the club an opportunity to sell more products and increase their matchday revenue.

“It extends the demographic at the stadium and highlights the quality of the WSL as a product.

Arsenal are doing similar – they have spoken about hosting five WSL matches at The Emirates next season, and they only have 11 home games a season.

There is a huge opportunity to showcase what the WSL has to offer and it is an area of significant growth for Premier League clubs.
