Kieran Trippier: ‘Brilliant’ Newcastle star is the club’s ‘best signing’ and will lead them to silverware – pundit
Kieran Trippier is the best player at Newcastle and will lead the club as they challenge for trophies over the next three years.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the defender bagged his first goal for the club.
Trippier, 31, scored Newcastle’s third as they beat Everton 3-1 on Tuesday (8 February).
The right-back was the Magpies’ first signing of the January window and has started all four games since he joined.
McAvennie predicts Trippier will be a hero to Newcastle fans after his impressive start to life at St James’ Park.
“I always said Trippier would be their best signing,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He’s come straight in and made that place his own and he’s probably their best player.
“For him to get that goal last night is brilliant. He raises the standards of everyone around him.
“I bet some of those players look around and they can’t believe Trippier is there.
“Every part of his game is brilliant, his defending, his attacking. His crossing is pinpoint.
“The Newcastle fans love him already and it’s easy to see why. He’s going to be a hero for them there, what a signing.
“He’s the one who will lead them when they challenge for trophies. The way they are going it could be two or three years away.”

Newcastle moved out of the relegation zone for the first time since September due to their win over the Toffees.
They are next in action against Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Sunday (12 February).
