Kieran Trippier ‘out for the season’ after expert’s Newcastle United injury update – pundit

Kieran Trippier may not play for Newcastle United again this season.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s fitness.

Trippier, 31, has been out with a broken metatarsal since the 1-0 win over Aston Villa on 13 February.

Injury expert and Football Insider pundit Ben Dinnery told this site (8 April) the defender is set for at least another four weeks on the sidelines.

The Magpies have seven games left to play this season and now sit 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

As a result, McAvennie has urged Eddie Howe to not take any risks with Trippier’s fitness.

“You don’t want to rush him,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“If he’s out for the season then so be it, Newcastle will be safe without him.

“They need to make sure he’s ready to go again and play a full season next year.

“I’m sure Eddie Howe won’t play him if he isn’t 100% sure because he is such a good player.

“You don’t want to make things worse so if the recovery isn’t quite going to plan I wouldn’t worry about it.

“Start to think about next season.”

Trippier became the first signing of the PIF era when he joined Newcastle from Atletico Madrid for £12million in January.

He has already scored two free-kicks in wins over Everton and Aston Villa during a nine-game unbeaten run for the Magpies.
