Kieran Trippier tipped to quit Newcastle after latest – expert
Kieran Trippier has been tipped to leave Newcastle this summer, with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland striker Frank McAvennie insisted the likes of Trippier, 33, and Dan Burn, 32, will have to be sold unless they sign new contracts, despite impressive performances.
With their deals set to expire in one year, and no progress made towards extensions, the club could look to cash in on their assets in the transfer window.
It has been widely reported that Newcastle will have to sell players and reinvest the money in this transfer window, with out-of-contract players tipped to be up for sale.
Newcastle tipped to sell Kieran Trippier in contract twist
McAvennie previously told Football Insider on 18 May that Trippier, who has suffered from injury issues in the just-completed season, could be among major exits from St James’ Park.
The Hammers icon now believes he could be up for sale unless contract talks are concluded soon, as, regardless of his performances for the club, their focus will be on the future.
“He will leave, unless they’re going to give them a new contract,” he told Football Insider.
“Trippier has done brilliantly, he was the first one to come in, wasn’t he?
“He’s the captain as well, a good captain. There’s Dan Burn as well, a local boy.
“Unfortunately, I don’t know if they’re going to give them a new contract.

“I would give them the contracts, because he deserves it, but football isn’t about deserving, it’s about the here and now.
“I don’t think they’ll get the contracts.”
