Kris Boyd in hysterics at Mohammed Kudus incident in West Ham v Bournemouth

Mohammed Kudus left Kris Boyd almost lost for words following an inexplicable moment during West Ham’s draw against Bournemouth.

Graham Potter‘s side were in desperate need of a league victory, having gone three matches without three points since the 2-0 win over Leicester City in February, and an inspired second-half performance nearly delivered that.

Evanilson netted his eighth goal of the Premier League season, pouncing in the six-yard box as Alphonse Areola could only parry Antoine Semenyo‘s shot into the striker’s path on Saturday, 5 April.

Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen, linked with a move to Liverpool, helped the Hammers to overturn the one-goal deficit in the second half, until Evanilson scored again to break hearts in East London.

It could have been a much better opening 45 minutes at the London Stadium, but Boyd could not quite believe his eyes after watching Kudus’ hilarious mistake unfold just before the half-time break as his attempt to put in a cross went all wrong.

Speaking live via Sky Sports Soccer Saturday [5 April, 3:48pm], Boyd said: “It’s hard to explain, you need to see it. He [Kudus] goes down the right-hand side… and gets the break of the ball away from Kerkez.

“Just when he’s about to cross it with his right foot, it hits off his left and back off his right, and just shoots away. It’s one of those you don’t want to see again.”

Graham Potter still in need of a monster striker at the London Stadium

Football Insider verdict

Despite making an instant impact just seven minutes after replacing Edson Alvarez, Niclas Fullkrug’s time at West Ham has been massively underwhelming, especially after arriving on a £28m deal [BBC Sport].

A lack of goals, combined with the Hammers’ openness in defence, has meant the team dropping to 15th in the Premier League table, just five points closer to the top half of the table than they are to the relegation zone.

Bowen, of course, has been a key figure in the attack in East London, scoring 69 goals since arriving from Hull City in 2020, and is one of the most loved players by the passionate fanbase.

However, the winger cannot continue to carry the entire team on his shoulders and needs a goal-hungry striker to lighten the burden at the London Stadium, with the summer transfer window just weeks away.

Evan Ferguson has offered little since joining on loan from Brighton, with Danny Ings barely featuring under any of the last three managers, so David Sullivan will be expected to splash the cash this summer.
