Kyle Lafferty has issued a warcry for his Hearts teammates and promised to shatter the dreams of another unbeaten domestic campaign for Celtic on day one of the new season.

Celtic host Hearts on August 5, the first day of the new season, and former Rangers attacker Lafferty is already bringing the talk to Parkhead.

Talking in the Daily Record, Lafferty said, “We want to be the first team to beat them [Celtic]. I think we can. I am going to thrive on that kind of game.

“Games don’t come much bigger than playing against the champions on flag day. Celtic will be right up for it.”

“We are still trying to get to know each other but come August 5 we will be bang at it. Hearts will give Celtic a tough match and it will be an exciting game that’s for sure.”

Celtic enjoyed an incredible season under the watch of Brendan Rodgers, winning the league at a canter, and finishing 39 points above bitter rivals Rangers, and 30 points ahead of second-placed Aberdeen.

They also won both domestic cups in a treble-winning season that saw them remain undefeated apart from in the Champions League.

It makes the upcoming season tougher as every team will want to knock Celtic off their perch – starting with Hearts on August 5.
