Leading contenders revealed in race to sign Mohamed Salah after Liverpool fall-out

Saudi Pro League clubs are expected to make renewed offers for Mohamed Salah in the wake of an apparent bust-up with Arne Slot at Liverpool.

The 33-year-old has been left out of the starting XI for the past three games, and was an unused substitute as Liverpool drew 3-3 with Leeds at Elland Road.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, clubs in the Middle East have the funds and the project on offer to tempt Salah away from Liverpool and are expected to step up their interest in next summer’s window.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 6 December that Salah is not happy at Liverpool and is now considering his long-term future at the club.

Despite turning down a move to Saudi Arabia in favour of signing a new deal at Anfield last season, there is a growing feeling the deal could be revived.

Mohamed Salah is likely to leave Liverpool

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider last month that Liverpool could accept a “massive” offer for Salah from the Saudi Pro League.

Salah has been cited as a major part of Liverpool’s problems, with his on-pitch struggles so far this season meaning the Reds have lacked a major influence in their front line.

Following what has now become a very public falling-out with the manager, there is now an expectation that Saudi Pro League clubs will reignite their interest.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “The thing with Mo Salah is, they tied him down to that new contract when there was a lot of talk that he might leave on a free transfer.

“The main thing is Saudi Pro League clubs have always remained keen on Mo Salah.

“He is seen as a poster boy signing, a real marquee signing for the league.

“So if Saudi Pro League clubs get any encouragement now that Salah would be interested in a move away, there’s no doubt they will move for him.

“They’ve got the funds to do it. They have the project and they feel they can sell it to Salah to go and be one of the biggest players in that league.

“Liverpool could be tempted to cash in on him, and I’m sure Salah, if he’s not playing in that starting XI will be looking to move on in search of first-team football.”

Salah speaks out about Liverpool frustrations

Football Insider revealed on 21 October that Liverpool have no plans to sell Salah in 2026 and are hopeful he will get back to his best form this season.

However, he spoke out about his unhappiness after the draw against Leeds, as he revealed: “I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship… It feels like the club has thrown me under the bus.”

Salah signed a contract extension in April which runs until 2027, and he was previously expected to see out the full length of the deal before this latest twist.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in September that Liverpool are lining up replacements for Salah with a long-term plan being put in place for the 33-year-old.

On their current list of options, the likes of Brighton star Yankuba Minteh and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo have both emerged as targets.
