Confirmed: Leeds agree striker deal

Souleymane Doukara has revealed that he has agreed a contract extension with Leeds.

The 25-year-old striker was announced as signing on a three-year deal when he joined in the summer of 2014 and it was widely believed that he had entered the final three months of his current contract.

BBC Radio Leeds reporter Adam Pope revealed on his personal Twitter account that the French striker had explained during a press conference on Thursday that his contract with with Elland Road outfit is now set to expire in the summer of 2018.

It is likely that the former Catania forward could have had a similar clause in his contract to that of goalkeeper Rob Green, who saw his current deal extended by a further year this month.

The Yorkshire giants announced on their website earlier this month that England international Green extended his deal by 12 months after triggering an appearance-related clause.

Doukara has been an integral member of a Leeds side that have defied pre-season expectations to sit comfortably in the Championship play-offs this season in fourth place.

Sitting second to Chris Wood in the Leeds goalscoring charts with five strikes, the forward won the Championship’s January goal of the month award with a volley against Nottingham Forest.

Doukara is expected to feature against Reading on Saturday evening, if only from the substitutes’ bench, after earning a penalty with a solo run against Brighton last time out.

Three points against Jaap Stam’s Royals could see Leeds climb to third in the Championship above Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield, if the Terriers lose to Burton Albion.

In other Leeds transfer news, this Premier League club are still interested in a Whites defender.
