Leeds fans call on Monk to start 24-year-old against Sheffield Wednesday

By Will Butcher

Leeds fans have pleaded with manager Garry Monk on Twitter to start Kemar Roofe against Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on Saturday.

Roofe, 24, has started just two of Leeds’ last five matches with places in Monk’s side now hotly contested following the deadline day signings of wingers Alfonso Pedraza and Modou Barrow.

Since his exclusion from the side, Monk’s men have won just two games, suffering three losses to Cardiff, Huddersfield and even non-league side Sutton United.

That blip in form has seen Leeds drop to six points off David Wanger’s third placed Huddersfield, as they remain in fifth and only above Saturday’s opponents on goal difference.

That form has seen Leeds fans act in desperate mood on Twitter by calling on former Swansea manager Monk to start last season’s League Two Player of the Year, who is yet to prove his hefty £3million transfer fee.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

This season, Roofe has had a hand in nine goals for the former Champions League side following his summer move from Oxford United.

Scoring three goals against Aston Villa, Preston and Wolves, Roofe has also provided six assists and Leeds’ number seven could be in line to start his 21st league game of the season.

In other Leeds news, Monk believes his side will earn all three points against Wednesday if they do this.
