Leeds fans react on Twitter to Green display v Huddersfield
By Dominic Toner
Leeds’ veteran goalkeeper Rob Green couldn’t help his side slip to an away defeat to Huddersfield – but the club’s supporters still gave him huge credit for his performance on Twitter.
The 37-year-old rolled back the years and made a number of top saves, despite the Whites seeing their bid for an automatic spot take a huge blow with the 2-1 defeat.
The hosts took the lead through substitute Izzy Brown in the 27th minute, who had been forced on early due to an injury to Kasey Palmer.
Garry Monk’s side responded through prolific goalscorer Chris Wood as he calmly rounded the goalkeeper to tap into an empty net.
However, Michael Hefele scored the winning goal for Huddersfield in the 89th minute as he reacted quickly to a deflected effort.
Leeds fans highlighted the efforts of shot stopper Green for his man-of-the-match display, despite the loss to their Yorkshire rivals.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Green did his best to keep his side in the match and made a number of tremendous saves from close-range.
The former England international has been the club’s number one option ahead of Marco Silvestri this season and fully justified that against Huddersfield.
Leeds slipped to fifth in the Championship table and are still comfortably in the play-off positions, but were unable to extend the eight-point gap over seventh-placed Norwich.
They will hope to bounce back in their next match which is at home to Cardiff next Saturday.
