Leeds fans react to Hugo Diaz debut display v Preston
Yet another Leeds Under-23 star was given his first senior appearance for Paul Heckingbottom’s side, in the 3-1 defeat to Preston last night.
It was a case of in at the deep end for 21-year-old Hugo Diaz, who had to come on in the 57th minute after centre-back Pontus Jansson was injured.
Diaz couldn’t inspire his side to get level and Preston sealed all three points with a third goal in the 82nd minute.
The general consensus from Leeds fans was that Diaz did okay under the circumstances, with one saying that he actually made two more tackles than Pontus Jansson.
However, another said that he didn’t look ready and that he got dragged out of position and left Leeds in trouble in one incident.
Other Leeds fans marvelled at the fact that they had Diaz and another Under-23 star Paudie O’Connor at centre-back in the game – and wondered who would be playing there if Jansson was unavailable for Friday’s game with Aston Villa.
One fan said that he’d prefer Pascal Stuijk to Diaz, another Under-23 player, purely because he’s more of a physical presence.
