Leeds fans react on Twitter to Bridcutt display against Reading
By Alex Stevens
Liam Bridcutt made his first Leeds appearance in three months in their 2-0 win over Reading – and fans took to Twitter to hail the returning skipper.
Club captain Bridcutt was not named in the starting XI for the Elland Road showdown after not being deemed fit enough to start his first match since breaking his foot against Blackburn on 13 September.
But the midfield enforcer made his return to the matchday squad and was called off the substitute’s bench after just 33 minutes of the Elland Road clash due to an injury to striker Chris Wood, who had opened the scoring after 19 minutes.
This forced Garry Monk to switch from a 4-1-4-1 formation with only one orthodox central midfielder to a 4-4-2 with Bridcutt pairing Ronaldo Vieira.
Leeds continued to dominate and secured the three points through a Souleymane Doukara penalty in the 90th minute.
Fans paid tribute to Bridcutt and welcomed the return of the club’s most experienced and aggressive central midfielder.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Leeds’ win lifts them to fifth in the Championship and increases their points tally to 35, which is eight behind Newcastle in the second automatic promotion spot.
In other Leeds news, these are the first two signings that incoming new owner Andrea Radrizzani will make in the January transfer window.
