‘Never heard of him’ – Leeds fans react as defender completes reported £5m+ switch
By Danny Wright
Burnley announced that they completed the signing of Charlie Taylor from Leeds on Thursday – and the Elland Road faithful were glad to see the back of the controversial defender.
The Clarets announced have that the 23-year-old had signed a four-year contract at Turf Moor after he reached the end of his deal with Leeds.
As Taylor is under the age of 24, the Whites are entitled to receive a compensation fee for his exit, which the Yorkshire Evening Post has reported to be worth at least £5million at a tribunal which is yet to take place.
Taylor was a mainstay in Garry Monk’s squad last season and made 32 appearances across all competitions as the Yorkshire giants almost qualified for a spot in the Championship play-offs.
However after a downturn in form, the Whites missed the opportunity for promotion back to the top-flight and there hopes of keeping hold of Taylor took a blow on the final day of the season when he refused to play against Wigan.
That indiscretion is clearly still on the mind of the Leeds supporters, who took to Twitter to give their thoughts on Taylor’s confirmed departure – with one fan acting like he had “never heard of him” in the first place.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
