Garry Monk gives update on Leeds future, new contract depends on one thing

By Russell Edge

Leeds manager Gary Monk has said that he will wait until after meetings with prospective new owner Andrea Radrizzani before committing to the club.

He added that the vision of the owner would need to align with his, if he’s to stay in the job.

The future of the former Swansea man has been speculated over this season, with his one-year contract coming to an end in the summer.

Last month the manager had confirmed that there had been no talks over extending his deal, as reported by Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay on his Twitter account.

To make the situation more complicated, Leeds are on the brink of a financial takeover from Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani, who intends to take control from controversial owner Massimo Cellino.

The Sun claimed last week that the two Italians had agreed a multi-million pound deal which would end the latter’s three-and-a-half year spell at the club.

When asked about his future after the draw with Wigan, Monk said that any discussions over extending his time at Elland Road would come after talks with the prospective new owner.

He told LUFC TV on their website: “We are due to sit down in the coming weeks to go into more detail and discuss a variety of different matters.

“I have a clear understanding of what it needs to move forward and deliver a promotion winning campaign.

“In those discussions it is for me to see that the vision of the club and the owner is aligned with what I feel it needs.”

Leeds fans will be left feeling nervous by Monk’s comments and will hope that Radrizzani keeps faith in the man who came so close to the play-offs this season.
