Leeds fans fear senior man could leave in the summer after Monk comments

By Amir Mir

Garry Monk has revealed that he has not been approached about extending his contract – and Leeds fans on Twitter have vented their frustration at the club.

The highly-rated 38-year-old coach is only on a one-year contract at Elland Road after joining the club last summer.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay posted on his personal Twitter account the latest comments from Monk on his current contract situation.

“You need to ask the club,” said Monk “I can’t speak for them. I’m focused on football.”

As a result, supporters fear that they may lose their senior man in the summer with the possibility that Leeds could be a Premier League club.

Monk has guided the Yorkshire outfit to promotion hopefuls during this campaign and they are still on course to finish in the top six despite back-to-back defeats.

It is likely that the Whites will go through the gruelling process of the play-offs if they want to end their 13-year absence from the top flight.

Leeds supporters felt it was bizarre that their manager has not yet been offered a new deal while others felt the current situation is ridiculous.

Therefore, fans were concerned that they could lose Monk at the end of the campaign as they urged to club to hurry up with their contract talks.

Overall, the Elland Road faithful were beginning to get worried that Monk’s current contract has not been extended.
