Leeds have huge chance to seal swoop for 6ft 7 colossus if PL club wrap up summer deal

COMMENT

Leeds United will need a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window with Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan showing that they are nowhere near good enough for the first-team.

Their form has been so bad that Bailey Peacock-Farrell has come into the side and has performed above and beyond the senior duo despite him spending part of the first-half of the season on loan in the National League North with York City.

That means director of football Victor Orta must go out and sign a goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window, either to give a back-up option to Peacock-Farrell, or find a new number one and give the academy product a spot on the bench.

The Sun on Sunday [print edition, 29 April, page 60] has reported that Newcastle United are planning on signing Croatian goalkeeper Carlo Letica in the summer transfer window and it is understood that Rafa Benitez might loan him out to a Championship club if he manages to wrap up a deal to sign the 6ft 7in colossus.

If Premier League club Newcastle do sign the Hadjuk Split star, that means Leeds will have a huge chance to get him on loan.

The Croatia Under-21 international has been in such good form this season that he is said to have snubbed advances from Real Madrid and Manchester United in order to pursue first-team football.

Letica, 21, has been in stunning form in Croatia’s top-flight this season – and has even managed to get himself on the scoresheet by heading in a last-minute winner against NK Istra in March.

He has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Hajduk this term, keeping a stunning 11 clean sheets in the process.

The giant goalkeeper would be a perfect addition for Leeds this summer and Orta must do all he can to ensure Newcastle’s target ends up at Elland Road for the 2018/19 campaign.
