Kenny ‘reminded of Taarabt’ after ‘unbelievable’ Leeds announcement
Patrick Bamford will be gutted” to miss out on the Player of the Year award at Leeds United.
That is according to ex-Whites goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Leeds revealed their end-of-season honours winners.
Stuart Dallas scooped the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards at the ceremony on Sunday evening.
Bamford missed out despite netting 17 times and laying on seven assists in the league this season.
Kenny claims the 27-year-old will feel aggrieved to have been snubbed but that the decision to crown Dallas Player of the Year was understandable.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “He’ll feel a little bit gutted. What a season he’s had.
“The first season back in the Premier League and he’s scored 17 goals and got seven assists… That’s just unbelievable.
“But listen, we don’t watch him week in, week out. The players do. They must see something different with Dallas.
“It reminds me of when I was at QPR with Adel Taarabt. He got Championship Player of the Year. He scored 20 odd goals and got nearly as many assists.
“Taarabt was unbelievable but I ended up winning the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year.
“So he’ll move on and try and have an even better season next season.”
Dallas started all 38 games in the top-flight this season, while Bamford started 37.
Both were vital cogs in the Leeds machine that finished 9th in the Premier League standings.
