Leeds United hit by Joe Rodon stumbling block – sources

Leeds United face big stumbling block in their big to sign Joe Rodon permanently from Tottenham

Leeds United are keen to sign Joe Rodon permanently – but a deal is unlikely unless they get promoted, sources have told Football Insider.

The Welshman moved to Elland Road on a season-long loan from Premier League giants Tottenham last summer, but the deal did not include an option to buy.

This means they will have to enter fresh negotiations with Spurs to secure a deal for the Wales international.

It is believed promotion will be a deciding factor on whether the Whites can secure the centre-back, who is expected to garner lots of interest after his exceptional first half of the season in the Championship.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that top-tier sides could make moves for the 26-year-old, but Leeds are expected to remain in the frame to keep Rodon despite strong competition.

Leeds, who currently sit just one point outside of the automatic spots, are one of the favourites to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Rodon has been a standout for Daniel Farke’s side this season, having made 29 starts in all competitions for the Yorkshire giants.

He has helped Leeds earn the second-best defensive record in the second tier this season, with only league leaders Leicester City able to boast a superior record.
