Leeds ‘have to’ sign Phillips replacement after news in last 24 hours – Mills
Leeds United “have to consider” potential candidates to replace star midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
So says ex-Elland Road man Danny Murphy, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 26-year-old’s latest injury setback.
Phillips, who is under contract until 2024, was forced to withdraw against Brentford on 5 December with a hamstring complaint.

The Athletic reported today (13 December) that he has undergone a successful operation but will still be sidelined for at least two months.
Leeds-born Phillips has long been linked with a move to an elite-level team.
Mills cast doubt over the Whites signing a replacement for Phillips in January but insisted plans should be put in place for his eventual exit.
“There has been a lot of talk about what might happen next in Phillips’ career,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitely.
“Who is next after Phillips? They have to consider that. He’s their star man and that is something they need to think about in the long term.
“Whether it is right to bring that person in January, there’s some debate over that.
“Is that the most important thing? What sort of players can you really get in January?
“Players get injured after international duty in November and December. You don’t need a degree in sports science to tell you that.
“That little bit of fatigue can make the difference.”

Phillips has one goal and one assist in 15 appearances this term.
His Leeds side are 15th in the league standings after their late defeat to Chelsea last Saturday (11 December).
