Leeds United news: Expert issues ‘surprise’ claim amid Marc Roca medical news
Alan Hutton has claimed Leeds United have “learned from their mistakes” in the January window by making a lightning start in the market this summer.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed he is “slightly surprised” to see the Whites working on so many incomings at this early stage of the window.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano (17 June), Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca is set to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of a €12million (£10.2million) plus add-ons move to Leeds United.
The Yorkshire giants have already completed deals for RB Salzburg duo Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson.
Leeds United failed to add to their threadbare squad in January despite a number of key injuries – including to key stars Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford.
The Whites narrowly avoided relegation in the 2021-22 season after beating Brentford 2-1 on the final day of the season (22 May).
Hutton insisted Roca’s experience will make him a “key” addition in midfield.
“I’m slightly surprised to see them doing this business so quickly,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“Especially after the January window didn’t go to plan for them. They’ve obviously learned from their mistakes and they’re trying to get their business done early.
“Going for a midfielder with that sort of experience is key for them.
“We don’t know what is going to happen with Kalvin Phillips, but they’re acting quickly to get their targets in so that they can move forward ahead of the new season.”

As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (13 June), Man City have already tabled a bid to sign Phillips after identifying the Whites star as their top target.
The Yorkshire side kick their 2022-23 campaign off at home against Wolves on 6 August.
