Leeds United news: Mills issues ‘huge’ Junior Firpo claim after ‘big’ reveal in last 24 hours
Junior Firpo’s injury is a “huge shame” but he has not been good enough for Leeds United, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender admitted he was baffled Firpo was on the verge of the Barcelona team before his move to Elland Road.
The 25-year-old’s latest disastrous display came in the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa today when the visitor’s opening two goals came down Leeds’ left side.
He was taken off on a stretcher off towards the end of the game and Jesse Marsch had already used all three of his substitutes.
As quoted by Leeds Live today (11 March), Marsch claimed it may be an MCL injury that will “keep him out for a while”.
“It’s a huge shame because it looks like a serious injury,” Mills told Football insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“That’s obviously a big shame and very, very disappointing for the player. That’s never easy to take.
“But this is a guy that’s come from Barcelona. Have we seen every sign of that so far? When you think of some of the full-backs that have been at Barcelona over the years, was this guy really good enough to be on the verge of the Barcelona team?

“I haven’t seen it yet. I haven’t seen a performance which makes you go ‘This is a proper player’. We’ve still been waiting for that.
“Yes, he’s had injury problems before this and it’s never nice when a player gets injured but up to now, you haven’t gone ‘Oh yes, Leeds have got a great player on their hands here’.”
In other news, a £70million-rated Leeds United star has been told by a leading agency ‘we’ll get you to Liverpool’.
