Leeds United news: Simon Grayson opens preliminary talks over new job – sources
Leeds United’s former boss Simon Grayson is in preliminary talks to become the new manager of the India national team, sources have told Football Insider.
Negotiations have begun with the ex-Whites manager following the sacking of Igor Stimac on Monday (17 June).
The Croatian was relieved of his duties on the back of a disappointing Asian Cup campaign and his failure to take India to the third round of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
Grayson is now in talks over potentially taking on the role as a return to management could be on the cards for him.
The 54-year-old has been out of work since parting ways with Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC last December.
Ex-Leeds United boss Simon Grayson could become India manager
Grayson has enjoyed mixed success as a manager after taking on several roles in England before heading out to India in 2022.
The North Yorkshire-born man has achieved four promotions during his 19-year career in the dugout.
Each of those successes came in League One after helping Blackpool, Leeds, Huddersfield Town and Preston all secure promotion to the Championship.
Grayson’s most successful spell came with Leeds, where he recorded a 49.7 per cent win rate at Elland Road between 2008 and 2012.
After also taking charge of Sunderland, Bradford City and Fleetwood Town before joining Bengaluru two years ago, his overall win rate sits at 41.1 per cent, having overseen more than 750 matches.

The Englishman is now in talks over replacing Stimac as the new India manager after his five-year stint in charge of the national team was brought to an end.
After the Croatian won just 19 of his 53 games in the dugout, the country’s FIFA ranking has now slipped to 121 in the world.
