Leeds United news: ‘Unbelievable’ Kalvin Phillips transfer claim issued after source’s Newcastle reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has insisted Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips would be an “unbelievable signing” for Newcastle United or Aston Villa this summer.
The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the north east and Midlands giants are showing their “ambition” by pursuing a deal for the 26-year-old.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (16 May), Newcastle and Villa are leading the race to sign Phillips this summer.

A recruitment source told this site both clubs are laying the groundwork for a deal after making the midfielder a top target.
Hutton insisted Phillips would make “any team better” with his ability in the middle of the park.
He admitted signing the Leeds star would be a coup for Villa or Newcastle.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “That’s the word, ambition. These two clubs are showing that.
“I don’t think they’ll do that. I think they’ll be more reserved and try and get key targets, rather than just spending lots of money.
“Villa are trying to the same. They’re trying to go for those European places and so are Newcastle.
“It’s about picking the right players to come in and make the team better. Phillips will make any team better.
“If one of those can get him through the door, it would be an unbelievable signing.”
Phillips‘ contract at Elland Road runs until the summer of 2024.

He has played 233 times for his boyhood club, with 14 goals under his belt.
His performances have also earned him 19 caps for England to date.
