Leeds told to sign top-class midfielder after Forshaw twist – Mills
Leeds United need to sign a new midfielder even if Adam Forshaw’s injury is not as bad as first feared, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender insisted Marcelo Bielsa’s side can easily get sucked into the relegation battle despite putting back-to-back Premier League wins together for the first time this season.
Forshaw was starting his 10th league game in a row after a two-year layoff as Leeds beat West Ham 3-2 on Sunday (16 January).
He limped off with a hamstring injury after just over 20 minutes but took to Instagram on Monday (17 January) to confirm it was only a “small” injury.
“It’s a difficult one,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“He’s played quite a few games now, it’s not like he’s only just come back. You are assuming that is to do with fatigue, he’s not a lightning-quick player like someone like Michail Antonio where his hamstring could go at any point.
“Maybe after such a long time out and playing so many games in quick succession because Kalvin Phillips hasn’t been available, he hasn’t been able to give him that little bit of rest that he needed and it’s taken his toll.
“After two years out he’s played quite a lot of football. Ideally, you would dip them in and dip them out to build up that stamina and to build up that robustness. Bielsa hasn’t been able to do that.

“If there is money to spend they have to dip into the transfer market and bring in a midfielder with quality who slots straight in to plug that gap.
“You don’t want to lose another two or three games and be sucked into that relegation zone.”
