Leeds well placed to sign Bamford ally after source’s update on new 21-year-old bid – pundit

Leeds United target Brenden Aaronson could ease the goal burden on Patrick Bamford, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, defended the club’s decision to chase another offensive midfielder despite an apparent lack of cover for Bamford and Kalvin Phillips.

A Leeds source has told this site that the club have tabled an improved bid for Aaronson after seeing an initial £15million offer rejected by Red Ball Salzburg.

As quoted by Leeds Live (20 January), Marcelo Bielsa refused to be drawn when quizzed about a possible move for the 21-year-old.

The attacking midfielder has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract with the Austrian club.

When asked by Football Insider if Leeds’ money could be better spent elsewhere, Campbell said: “Bielsa wants to attack, leave hime alone!

“Leeds have got their way of doing things and they are not going to change for anybody.

“At the end of the day, it has worked for them. This approach is what has got them out of the Championship and into the Premier League. They will continue to go for young, hungry players who want to be aggressive and go on the offensive.

“As the neutral, we like the way Leeds play. Yes, sometimes they come unstuck because it is high risk football. I like the way they play though. That is why they chase players in offensive positions.

“There has been a lot of talk of signing backup for Bamford but you can also replace Bamford’s goals by signing creative midfielders. They need goals from other areas and Aaronson could help them with that.”

In other news, a pundit has cited Bamford as big-money Leeds signing predicted after U-turn.
