Leicester City manager latest: Odds on front-runners narrow after Marti Cifuentes sack news
Leicester City will reportedly decide the future of Marti Cifuentes on Sunday in a special board meeting at King Power Stadium.
Cifuentes is due to conduct media interviews at Leicester on Sunday, but the pressure has intensified after the Foxes were beaten 2-1 by Oxford United on Saturday.
Goals from Sam Long and Mark Harris proved too much at the King Power Stadium, with the Spaniard’s team now without a win in three Championship games.
Ryan Mason was sacked by West Brom after his side were beaten by Leicester at the start of January, but Cifuentes now appears set to suffer the same fate.
Mark Robins is among the managers in the running for the Leicester job, with several big names set to be in contention.
Leicester City to decide on Cifuentes future
Supporters chanted against Cifuentes on Saturday – a moment that always appears to signal the end of a manager’s tenure.
The Athletic have now reported that Leicester will decide the future of the Spaniard in a ‘special board meeting’ on Sunday.
Chairman Aiyawatt ‘Khun Top’ Srivadddhanaprabha is set to hold talks with the club’s hierarchy over whether to dismiss the 43-year-old.
Should Cifuentes be sacked, he will be the ninth Championship manager to lose their job this season so far.
The latest odds for the Leicester job
There had been excitement surrounding Leicester this season, and Cifuentes looked to be the right man to stabilise the Foxes and guide them back up the Championship table.
The Spaniard had enjoyed a strong stint with QPR, and his 2025 departure by mutual consent was a surprise.
| Marti Cifuentes | Leicester City |
| Wins | 11 |
| Draws | 8 |
| Losses | 12 |
| Scored | 46 |
| Conceded | 48 |
There will be no shock if Cifuentes is to depart Leicester in the coming days, however, with Saturday’s defeat marking an 11th Championship loss this season.
The Foxes now find themselves six points away from the play-offs, and just eight points in front of 21st-placed Portsmouth.
Just six sides have scored more goals than Leicester in the Championship this season, but it is the rate at which they concede that is so damaging.

Just one team have conceded more than the 43 Cifuentes’ side have in the league this season – 24th-placed Sheffield Wednesday, with 56.
Should the 43-year-old be dismissed in the coming days, one major bookmaker has named Russell Martin as the favourite to replace him at 5/1.
Robbie Keane (7/1), Robins (8/1), and Lee Carsley (10/1) are among the other main contenders.
