Medical expert: The media are wrong about Wilfred Ndidi as real Leicester City return date revealed

The media are wrong about Wilfred Ndidi – the Leicester City star will return from injury in time for the first game of the 2022-23 campaign.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Ndidi, 25, recently returned to training after he missed the last three months of 2021-22 with an MCL injury.

But as quoted by Leicestershire Live last Saturday (16 July), Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers revealed that the Nigerian midfielder had sprained his ankle in a recent session.

Dinnery claims, however, that media reports that Ndidi is facing an extended period out are nonsense.

“Whether this was a little bit lost in communication, I’m not sure,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Rodgers seemed to allay fears of a serious injury that would keep him out long term. We know he is coming off the back of knee surgery which meant he missed the latter part of 2021-22.

“A serious setback at this stage would be a major blow for the midfielder.

“A high ankle sprain indicates it is a little bit more severe than a run-of-the-mill ankle sprain. But the reporting of the injury doesn’t match with what Rodgers has said in terms of his post-match comments.

“His expectation was that he could be training with the squad this week. He has an outside chance for one of the two remaining friendly games.

“Either way, you’d expect him to be back for game week one in the Premier League.”
