Medical expert issues ‘eight-game’ Wesley Fofana verdict after Leicester City latest

It could take Wesley Fofana up to eight Leicester City games to reach full fitness and match sharpness.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Fofana has not played since he suffered a fractured fibula and damaged ankle ligaments in a pre-season friendly against Villareal.

This site revealed last month (13 January) that the 21-year-old centre-back had suffered a setback in his rehab that would further delay his recovery.

As quoted by the Daily Mail on 4 February, Brendan Rodgers revealed that Fofana “will look to join the squad the week beginning February 14.”

Dinnery suggests that, although he is due to return to training today, it could take a handful of matches for the Frenchman to get up to speed.

“If he is going to return on schedule, he’ll have been out for around six months,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It’s a little bit easier as a defender to play yourself back in as opposed to an explosive forward. It’s different for every player.

“The momentum of the team can carry you along. It might take four to eight games to find your feet and reach that return to fitness.

“You’ve just got to keep putting the work in on the training pitches to give you the best possible chance.”

Fofana is one of six Leicester stars currently on the sidelines, with defenders making up five of those absentees.

The Foxes are 11th in the league table.
