Expert issues ‘sensational’ Wilfried Ndidi claim as Leicester City images emerge

It will feel “sensational” for Leicester City star Wilfried Ndidi to return after 16 weeks of being unable to train.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Ndidi, 25, has not played since he suffered a medial collateral ligament tear in March.

But pictures posted via the Foxes’ official Twitter account last Saturday (2 June) showed the Nigerian midfielder back in training for the first time since the knee injury.

Brendan Rodgers’ side face Notts County in their first pre-season match on Saturday (9 July).

Dinnery insists that the next few weeks are pivotal for Ndidi as he looks to re-make his mark on first-team proceedings.

“On a personal level, it will feel sensational to get back into the game,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“He might be slightly disappointed about how Leicester’s season panned out. He will want to go out and prove himself.

“It wasn’t a particularly major injury, although it did entail a significant period on the sidelines. But there are usually really good recovery outcomes from this type of injury.

“There shouldn’t be any sort of major hangover. If he gets a good pre-season under his belt, he’ll put himself back in Brendan Rodgers’ thinking.

“It’s important to get the time out on the training pitches, get those sessions, improve your fitness levels. Do that and you give yourself a good chance.

“So, it’s important both on a personal level and in terms of being available for the team.”
