‘Lewis Miley set for extended starting run’ -Newcastle fans respond to journalist’s update
Newcastle fans were in unison in their reaction after receiving an update on Joelinton’s fitness.
Newcastle are gearing up for a crucial clash against Brighton on 4 May, with Champions League qualification still within reach.
The Magpies currently sit third in the Premier League, but face competition from the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.
Eddie Howe has largely relied on a midfield trio of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton this season, a combination that has brought much-needed balance and energy to the team.
Newcastle have been in free-scoring form in recent weeks as they push to secure a top-five finish. However, that momentum could be disrupted following a fresh fitness update on Joelinton.

Joelinton set to miss remainder of Newcastle season after injury blow
Craig Hope of the Daily Mail reported on 30 April that Joelinton is expected to miss Newcastle’s final four matches of the season due to a knee injury.
Although the issue is “not thought to be too serious”, medical advice given to both the player and the club has recommended he sit out the remaining games as a precaution.
It’s a huge setback for Howe’s side, with the Brazilian playing a pivotal role in key fixtures throughout the campaign. With Joe Willock struggling for form, many Newcastle fans already have another name in mind to step up in Joelinton’s absence.

Newcastle fans call for Lewis Miley to start amid transfer speculation
Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has told Football Insider that Newcastle may be forced to consider letting Lewis Miley leave in order to raise funds this summer, with the club still navigating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Despite the speculation, Newcastle remain hopeful of keeping the 19-year-old, who is already highly rated at St James’ Park. Miley has made 43 senior appearances and scored three goals, establishing himself as a promising talent in Howe’s squad.
His involvement this season has largely been limited to a rotational role, with just one Premier League start, but his flashes of quality have led many fans to call for him to start in Joelinton’s absence – over the more experienced but inconsistent options of Willock and Sean Longstaff.
One fan posted: “Miley to replace big Jo for me… defo not Longstaff or Willock” while another added: “Need Miley starting for these games. Willock should be nowhere near this team.”
