Liam Delap and Dewsbury-Hall react to Sammie Szmodics’ Ipswich injury update

Sammie Szmodics received plenty of reactions from fellow players as he gave Ipswich fans another injury update.

Ipswich have been without Szmodics for their last two matches, a significant setback for a side already struggling in attack.

Szmodics confirmed he required surgery on his latest injury, though the exact timeline for his recovery remains uncertain.

Kieran McKenna’s side suffered a late defeat to Crystal Palace in their last Premier League outing, leaving them deep in the relegation battle, six points behind Wolves.

Despite the setback, Szmodics remained in good spirits as he shared another update following his surgery, offering hope to Ipswich fans that he could be back sooner rather than later.

Sammie Szmodics on the road to recovery after successful surgery

The 29-year-old confirmed on Instagram that he underwent a successful operation, sharing an optimistic message: “Surgery was a success – looking forward to getting back fit ASAP! Thanks for all the messages.”

His positive update was met with plenty of support, as Chelsea’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Ipswich teammates Ben Godfrey and Liam Delap were among those who liked the post.

The 29-year-old has been a key figure for McKenna since joining last summer, with Leeds fans previously pushing for the club to sign Szmodics before his Premier League move.

This season, he has made 22 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing two assists—continuing his incredible form from last season at Blackburn, where he netted 33 goals and four assists.

With Szmodics sidelined, Ipswich have suffered another attacking setback in what has already been a difficult season for goals.

McKenna will look to Delap, as there will now be more pressure on him to continue to lead the line and provide the firepower needed to keep the Tractor Boys in the Premier League.

The young striker has been Ipswich’s most consistent goal threat, netting 10 goals this season. However, transfer speculation surrounding his future continues to swirl, with both Chelsea and Newcastle interested in signing Delap.

Szmodics’ return date remains uncertain, leaving Delap carrying the weight of the team’s goalscoring burden at a crucial stage of the season. The last thing Ipswich need in their relegation fight is distractions over Delap’s future.

Next up, they face Nottingham Forest on 15 March, aiming for revenge after their FA Cup elimination at the hands of the same opponent.
