Liverpool handed Diogo Jota boost after confirmed news – pundit

Frank McAvennie has suggested Liverpool have boosted Diogo Jota in his recovery from injury by handing him a new long-term contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker heaped praise on the Reds for what was a “good bit of business”.

Last Tuesday (2 August), Liverpool confirmed the 25-year-old forward has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at Anfield that Football Insider understands is worth £150,000-a-week and £39million in total.

Speaking to club media on the announcement of his new deal (2 August), Jota said he is “really proud” to extend his stay at the Merseyside club.

The winger added that he will be missing for “a few more weeks” after suffering an injury setback during pre-season.

When asked for his thoughts on Jota’s new contract and injury recovery, McAvennie told Football Insider‘s Charlotte Cohen: “I think he is a good player.

It is a good time to give him a new contract because he’s injured. It will give him a bit of confidence and self belief to come back after his injury.

Sometimes when you’re injured, even for a few weeks, you feel down because you’re not involved.

I think it’s a good piece of business for all parties at this time.
