Liverpool have agreed ‘huge’ fee as they accelerate on multiple signings to replace Fabinho & co
Alan Hutton has suggested Liverpool will have been desperate to sell Fabinho in order to bring in their own midfield targets this summer.
The former Tottenham and Rangers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Saudi move will have been “attractive” to the 29-year-old due to the wages on offer.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 July) that Liverpool expect to complete the sales of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Pro League clubs this week.
It is believed Al-Ittihad will pay a fee of £40million for the Brazil international – who has three years left to run on his Anfield contract.
Fabinho, who has been at Liverpool since 2018, played 49 times across all competitions last season – notching two assists.
The Merseysiders are ready to continue their midfield rebuild and have drawn up a shortlist of potential targets.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 July) that Liverpool are exploring a potential move for Crystal Palace star Cheick Doucoure as well as longer term targets like Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.
Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s a lot of money, and I’m sure they bit the club’s hand off!
“Fabinho, going the opposite way, it will be attractive to him in terms of the contract and the wages.
“At the end of his career, it’s something he will want, and it probably suits all parties.
“These Saudi clubs are not going away. Every other day you’re reading about another top target going over there.
“Wages aren’t an issue, money isn’t an issue. I think we’re going to see more and more players going over there.

“It’s great for Liverpool, they get a huge sum of money in.
“That gives them the money to go out and get the targets they want.”
