Finance guru: Liverpool have sealed ‘major victory’ after ‘fighting off’ proposed law change
Liverpool have secured a “major victory” by squashing a proposed owners’ charter for Premier League clubs.
So says finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the controversial post-Super League scheme was scrapped.
An owners’ charter was proposed in the wake of the Super League plot last April with a view to safeguarding the Premier League’s sporting integrity.

Per The Times last Tuesday (15 February) Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and the two Manchester clubs have successfully repelled the idea.
One facet of the charter would have guaranteed that the only way clubs could qualify for the Champions League is through their league position.
That has left the door open for the likes of Liverpool to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition in future on the basis of their 10-year coefficient.
Plumley claims that Liverpool will be elated that this remains a possibility.
“It’s a major victory for Liverpool, no doubt,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“I’m not surprised to see the news that they have pushed back on this. You can see why they’ve been really keen to fight it off.
“There have been some small positive steps towards making that competition more accessible to more clubs.
“But ultimately, the odds are stacked towards the biggest clubs in Europe. Liverpool come under that bracket.
“The new Champions League format isn’t going to change that. We’re just going to get more of the same.
“At the moment, all you need is one bad season and you might miss out on the Champions League, which is bad for the budget.
“You have more chance to get that revenue in if you’re looking at the 10-year coefficient.”

Liver overcame Inter Milan 2-0 at the San Siro in the Champions League last 16 first leg last Wednesday (16 February).
The Reds won the tournament in 2018-19 after reaching the final the previous season.
