Liverpool have major ‘problem’ after Henderson and teammate ‘exposed’ – pundit

Liverpool should have signed another midfielder in the summer, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Premier League goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said Jurgen Klopp’s midfield was “exposed” at Chelsea and not for the first time this season.

The Reds surrendered a 2-0 lead at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to lose further ground on league leader Manchester City.

Robinson believes the absence of Thiago Alcantara is proving costly.

“I think they have been exposed in midfield at times this season,” he told Football Insider.

“They have missed Thiago dearly. He has been very good when he’s played this season.

“I have to say they look light in midfield. It’s a problem they should have rectified in the summer.

“I went to the game against Leicester and I thought they were poor. They really lacked in midfield. It was a lacklustre performance.

“Giving away a two-goal lead against Chelsea, a lot of that was to do with the midfield. They were exposed. Chelsea dominated.”

Liverpool

Liverpool lost Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer but chose not to replace him amid the rise of Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.

Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Arsenal in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final on Thursday.
