Liverpool have opened ‘talks’ with three players over new contracts

Arne Slot faces losing three key players if Liverpool do not agree new and improved contracts for the stars.

Slot is currently under pressure at Liverpool due to recent poor form, which has seen them fall eight points behind in the Premier League title race and knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat at Man City was a worrying performance from Slot’s side, which has raised further questions on their current form.

The club were active during the summer transfer window, and they are now looking at giving out new contracts for a trio of players.

Midfield trio to be rewarded with new contracts

Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai’s contracts all expire in 2028, but the club are aware of potential interest in the trio.

As per Lewis Steele in the Daily Mail, [14 November], he states the club are making it a priority to offer new deals to all three players.

All are on the agenda,” Steele said.

There is not much more to say other than talks are taking place over tying down some of the summer 2023 additions to long-term deals that represent their worth in the squad, with agents of all three keen for bigger contracts.

I asked Gravenberch about this last week when he was doing the pre-Real Madrid press conference and he side-stepped the question.

Liverpool need to resolve the contract situation around all three players as we know what Real Madrid and Co are like… they will be sniffing around before too long if the Reds are not careful.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool to join Real Madrid on a free last summer, and the club perhaps do not want the same situation to occur again.

Liverpool set for further transfer activity

Liverpool though are expected to lose centre-back Ibrahima Konate, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Konate could leave Liverpool in January if a big bid is received for the Frenchman, with Slot eager to bring Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to Merseyside.

Left-back Andy Robertson’s future at Liverpool is in doubt, with a move to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic looking on the cards.
