Liverpool have transfer ‘plan’ after source’s £550m-plus reveal – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Liverpool won’t “go crazy” in the January transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said the Reds will follow their transfer plan despite achieving record revenues in the 2021-22 season.

On 22 September, sources told this site that the Merseysiders are set to announce record revenues of £550million-plus in their next financial results.

The final figure is expected to be between £550m and £600m which could top all other Premier League clubs for the year.

In February, the Anfield club revealed that their turnover for the year ending 31 May 2021 had dropped to £487million.

Now the revenues for the 2021-22 campaign are set to break the club’s £533m pre-pandemic record.

Hutton insisted the increased revenue won’t mean a bigger transfer budget for Jurgen Klopp in January.

I think Liverpool have a plan,” he told Football Insider.

“They very rarely go out and spend £100m-plus on a player. I think they identify what they need, the areas of the pitch that need strengthened and then they go for that target. If they can’t get them, I think they very rarely move on to B and C targets. I think they want that specific person.

They’ll have already identified that at this moment in time, where they want to strengthen, who they want through the door. I don’t see them going crazy because the revenue is up.
