Liverpool issued ‘nasty’ verdict by pundit after journalist’s Joe Gomez update – ‘you fear the worst’
Paul Robinson is “relieved” to hear Liverpool defender Joe Gomez did not suffer a serious injury at Southampton on Tuesday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one “feared the worst” when the 24-year-old went down given his injury record.
Gomez needed treatment on the stroke of half time at St. Mary’s following a tackle on Mohammed Salisu.
The English defender was not able to carry on and was replaced by Jordan Henderson at the interval.
According to The Athletic‘s James Pearce (18 May), scan results have shown there to be no serious damage to Gomez’s ankle.
The club are said to be confident that Gomez will be available for next Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid in Paris.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his reaction to the news, Robinson said: “It looked like a nasty one and with him you fear the worst.
“He has spent a lot of time out injured in recent years. It’s a relief that he is not going to be out for a length of time.

“I expect he had an eye on the Nations League games coming up as well. He has been out of the England squad for some time now. If get can get back fit he may be given a chance by Gareth Southgate.
“It would be a great end to the season for him if he can get back into that squad.”
In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Liverpool have a right to be livid as legal proceedings begin.
