Liverpool may sign Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement as top priority after injury update – pundit

Danny Mills has suggested a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold may be the top priority for Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender delivered his verdict as Liverpool sweat over the fitness of the 23-year-old.

Medical expert Ben Dinnery told Football Insider today (25 March) Alexander-Arnold will likely be available for the trip to Man City next month (10 April).

Man City

The right-back missed the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend (20 March) with a hamstring injury that Jurgen Klopp revealed, via Sky Sports last Friday (18 March), would see him miss “weeks” of action.

Joe Gomez, a natural centre-back, filled in at right-back against Forest and Klopp could also call on James Milner and youngster Conor Bradley.

But Mills has claimed they have their limitations and Liverpool need a natural right-back.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They’ve got Gomez who can fill in, to a point but I’m not convinced he’s the answer in that position.

“When Liverpool are looking at where they are going to improve their squad, defensively is probably the area they need to look at more than anywhere else. I guess that is their weakest area.

“Nobody is going to be Alexander-Arnold but centre-halves playing there, I’m not convinced.

“Maybe that is the next area they start to look at. It’s nothing desperate yet by any means but that’s where they will look when they do start to strengthen.”

At left-back, Liverpool signed Kostas Tsimikas to provide cover and competition to Andy Robertson in the summer of 2020.

Tsimikas, 25, has four assists in 27 games across all competitions for Liverpool.
