Liverpool news: Big Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold updates – sources

Liverpool are planning fresh contract talks with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all open to extending their contracts at Liverpool, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the trio, whose current deals expire in 2025, will be happy to extend their stay at Anfield if the club show enough ambition in their post-Jurgen Klopp plans.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that talks are expected to open once a new manager and new sporting director have been appointed.

Sources have told Football Insider (10 February) that the club is “confident” they will keep hold of the stars – all of whom have been vital to their recent success.

Klopp announced his shock decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after nine years at the club last month, with his entire backroom staff set to depart too.

The club also confirmed that sporting director Jorg Schmadtke was to leave at the end of the January transfer window having joined in May 2023 after leaving German side Wolfsburg.

As revealed by Football Insider (11 February), Alexander-Arnold is set to be offered a long-term bumper contract by Liverpool – the “biggest” of the three stars.

There is also fresh optimism at the club that Salah will pen new terms, with Football Insider revealing (9 February) that he is in no rush to move to Saudi Arabia amid frequent links and could now prolong his stay on Merseyside.
